Tournament of Champions Wraps Up
Ft. Wayne Sport Club Shines (Again)

The 30th Annual Midwest Region Tournament of Champions was held on the immaculately manicured fields of the Ft. Wayne Sport Club the weekend of August 1st and 2nd. The TOC pits the State Champions of the 14 Midwestern States against one another. Perfect weather and perfect fields marked the weekend. It's hard to describe just how good the fields were, but let's just say there was no blaming a bad touch on a bad bounce. It's amazing what happens when you start with really good fields, then add a ton of slow release fertilizer and 56,000 gallons of water every other night for 3 weeks.

Indiana had 6 teams representing us in 4 Divisions: Women's Open, Men's Open, Men's O-30 and Men's U-23. We managed to come away with 2 Runners Up trophies. Indianapolis Dynamo finished second in Men's U-23 behind Cincinnatti 1790, and Ft. Wayne Sport Club finished second to Michigan in Men's O-30. Ft.Wayne was the defending champion. In Men's Open, Elkhart SC won its group but lost to eventual champion Louisville Soccer Alliance in the semi-finals.

The hard work of all of the volunteers at the Sport Club really paid off. The oldest and finest soccer club in the state truly shined. There was plenty of good food and lots and lots of good beer. Next year's tournament goes to Cleveland the third weekend of July, but we have been asked to submit a bid to become the permanent home after that.

Congratulations to the Sport Club, to our teams, and to all of the Indiana referees who donated their time to make this the best TOC ever.

USASA SOCCER SUMMIT
Adult Soccer - Starting Over

A Summit Meeting of the 50 states and other organizations affiliated with U.S. Adult Soccer will be held during the Mid-Year Meeting in October. The purpose of this meeting is to examine every aspect of the organization; keep those programs and services that work, modify those that need change, and eliminate those that are no longer needed. Everything that USASA does and how it does it will be on the table. This includes the Elite Player Program, Medical Insurance, Liability Insurance, National Cups, Player Registrations, etc..

Doug Pels and Allen Egilmez will represent Indiana at the Summit. The other members of the Indiana Board, Birdie Trevino, Dave West, Dave Howard and Nancy Haworth will attend the Mid-Year Meeting and consult with Doug and Allen about the Summit and its direction. The Summit will directly affect our programs in Indiana. It is important that all Board Members be available and be fully aware of what occurs during the Summit. This will help insure that all areas of Indiana Soccer will be in agreement when we vote on the future direction of U.S. Adult Soccer.

The opinions of our member leagues and players are vitally important. You can voice your opinions in two different ways. By mid July an online survey will be available to all of our members. The survey will be in English and Spanish and the link will be posted here. It is very important that everyone take a few minutes and completes the survey. All of the data will be compiled and given to every Summit participant prior to the meeting. This is the kind of grassroots data that we need. Please try to do this not only for our benefit, but for that of every other adult player. This kind of an opportunity to influence the future of our game comes along once in a lifetime. Let’s not waste it. The second way you can make sure your voice is heard is by contacting a Board Member. Call or e-mail and let us know what is important to you.

HERE'S THE SURVEY
Take it & send the link to a friend

The best thing you can do for the game, for yourself, and for all of your soccer playing friends is to take a few minutes and do this.

Veteran's Cup 2009 in Lancaster, MA
July 8-12

Veteran’s Cup Celebrates 12th Annual Tournament

Despite temperatures in the 60s, the Veteran’s Cup welcomed all 106 teams with its inauguration ceremony on Tuesday, July 7, at Devens Common Center Park, Mass. The 12th annual ceremony kicked off at 6:30 p.m. with the participation of a Fife & Drum Band followed by Revolutionary War Re-enactors. Teams from all four USASA Regions and two international teams, Tokyo Seniors of Japan, and Sarprissa from Costa Rica were present.

The USASA Veteran’s Cup is taking place at Citizens Bank Fields at Progin Park (40 min. west of Boston) on July 8-12. Visit the Veteran’s Cup page for scores and more!

Unfortunately, the Indiana entry in the Men's O-40 Division, "Bad Liver" lost its first two games to North Carolina United and Southboro United (MA).

This tournament represents the best there is for our veteran players. There are Divisions available for men and women from O-30 to O-65. This tournament is the most fun you'll ever have playing soccer.
